Wishes for the New Year

It’s New Year’s Eve and the turning of the year is upon us. We are also 13 years into the new millennium.

Here’s what I want you to ask yourself:

Is the new millennium looking the way you imagined it?

For example:
Has poverty been eliminated?
Do all people have enough to eat?
Does everyone have a home and a bed to sleep in?
Does everyone have “family” that loves and supports them?
Is everyone safe from harm?
Do all children know that they are loved?
Do all people know they are respected and appreciated?
Does everyone have a job or livelihood or work that ensures they can provide for their family?
Does everyone have a place where they can relax and live in emotional ease because they “belong?”
Is racism a “think” and thing, of the past?
Are men and women treated equally by culture and society?
Are those who believe differently acknowledged as equals?
Are those with differing cultures, societies, lifestyles, traditions included in humanity’s “story” or narrative?
Are the lands of the Indigenous protected from those who would exploit them?
Does everyone have access to education?
Is greed a thing of the past?
Is inclusion and compassion the first concern arising within human interactions?
Can everyone walk safely in their community without fear of harm?
Can everyone look forward to a brighter future in 2014?
Are animals respected and treated humanely and appreciated for the resources and companionship they bring to humans?
Are plants, trees, forests respected, cultivated and cherished for their contribution to supporting human life?
Is the earth safe from poachers or those who would exploit her resources?
Are the waters of earth– rivers, basins, streams, and lakes clean and pure and free from toxins?
Are the oceans pristine and teeming with healthy life?
Do humans respect their first mother, the earth where life originated, where they originated?
Is war now obsolete?

No?

Well, then there’s work to be done.

Don’t you wish this kind of world were already manifest? Don’t you wish it were so?

What kind of world do you want to create in 2014?

You realize, of course, that we create this world together, don’t you?

What are you personally going to contribute to bring that better world into being?

What resolution will you make RIGHT NOW to bring your singular gift, your contribution for a better world to the table in 2014?

Send us a comment with your resolution– anonymously if you wish.

AND HERE’S YOUR NEW YEAR’S ASSIGNMENT…

Tonight, do something to clear your space for a fresh start– change furniture, clean clutter, smudge, pray, play music, light a candle and carry it from room to room with your wishes or prayers for a new start. Create a ritual that clears the way for a better New Year.

Bless and consecrate your space to bring in fresh experiences and ideas and insights.

And some time tonight… before your head is no longer clear… or in the morning when it is clearer…

Close your eyes, take some deep breaths and set your intention for the New Year. Infuse that intention with as much emotion as you can muster… CAN YOU FEEL IT?

Then, while your eyes are closed, spend a few moments picturing this new world we will create together and breathe it into being in the space before manifestation. Make it live in the ethers, in space, in dreams and beckon it to come forward, and invite it into the NOW.

“In a world filled with hate, we must still dare to hope. In a world filled with anger, we must still dare to comfort. In a world filled with despair, we must still dare to dream. And in a world filled with distrust, we must still dare to believe.”

“If you enter this world knowing you are loved and you leave this world knowing the same, then everything that happens in between can be dealt with.”

“We have to heal our wounded world. The chaos, despair, and senseless destruction we see today are a result of the alienation that people feel from each other and their environment.”

“Hope is such a beautiful word, but it often seems very fragile. Life is still being needlessly hurt and destroyed.”

“Sometimes the heart is so heavy that we turn away from it and forget that its throbbing is the wisest message of life, a wordless message that says, “Live, be, move, rejoice — you are alive!” Without the heart’s wise rhythm, we could not exist.”

“Consciousness expresses itself through creation. This world we live in is the dance of the creator. Dancers come and go in the twinkling of an eye but the dance lives on. On many an occasion when I am dancing, I have felt touched by something sacred. In those moments, I felt my spirit soar and become one with everything that exists.

“In their innocence, very young children know themselves to be light and love. If we will allow them, they can teach us to see ourselves the same way. ”
